Complete Production Services: Creating a Functional Process Control Configuration in Hyperion Financial Management (HFM)

In 2006, Complete Production Services, one of North America's leading oilfield service providers, rolled out Hyperion System 9 ("HS9") Financial Management ("HFM") to consolidate the financials of their divisional entities and meet management reporting requirements.

In November of 2007, CPS decided that in order to standardize the finalization of the actuals, provide additional security control on the data and maintain SOX compliance, they needed to employ the Process Control feature available within HFM. This would allow users to verify data for their units of responsibility and pass access control to the next reviewer(s) established. At each level, only the specified reviewer(s) has the ability to modify the data until the process unit is passed along to the next level. Ultimately, the data is approved, published and locked down. Additionally, an electronic audit trail is now available for internal audits of both the data and the process.

Managing a Calendar Conversion Within Workforce Planning

In 2006, the client implemented Hyperion Planning to streamline their annual budget and monthly planning process. Their implementation included both Workforce planning and CAPEX applications. In the spring of the following year, the client and it's parent company were acquired by a larger company in the same industry.

As the new parent company operated on a January-December calendar year, this change required that the client's forecast be done using a new January - December calendar year, where previously their fiscal calendar was April - March.

Building a Financial Data Management (FDM) application for a Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) target

Using FDM to load G/L source data to HFM is becoming the leading tool for this process.  Building the FDM application, however, can sometimes seem like a complicated process, though it doesn't need to be. Included in this whitepaper is a checklist/workflow that can be used to ease the process of building an FDM application, connecting to an HFM adapter, and loading mapping templates.

Hyperion System 9 BI  Financial Reporting: Tips and Tricks for Designing Advanced Reports

Quality financial planning, budgeting and consolidation applications call for quality report generation to complete the picture of a comprehensive and valuable enterprise performance management solution. Hyperion Financial Reporting, a module of the Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus, is a tool that transforms enterprise data into operational insights with highly-formatted, book-quality report creation ability. The task of creating outputs ranging from internal management reports to external SEC packages is facilitated though an intuitive, object-oriented interface that even the most non-tech savvy users can employ.

Often, a basic financial report can take no more than a matter of minutes to build in Hyperion Financial Reporting (FR). At times, however, the creation of a seemingly standard financial report can be a deceptively challenging task. With the wide array of features and functions available in FR, it can simply be a matter of becoming familiar with knowing how to best use the tools at your disposal to effectively create the desired end result. This paper is designed to give experienced report designers real-world examples of a few reporting design topics, certain challenges that can arise, and suggested workarounds to resolve them.

Financial Data Quality Management (FDM) Through Hyperion Financial Management (HFM): Single Sign On Allows Seamless Access to Source Data with Click of a Mouse

Hyperion's FDM or Financial Data Quality Management has long been a great complement to HFM, creating a concise and systematic process for loading data from disparate systems. One of the hallmarks of FDM is the auditing ability which ensures visibility into and integrity of the loaded data. However, prior to the release of System 9.3, FDM had to be launched and signed onto separately to conduct a data audit or investigation. Now, through the use of single sign on (SSO), FDM is easily integrated into a HFM application and access to source data is seamless with the click of a mouse.

Customization of Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning for your Business Needs: 6 Simple Steps That Improve Budgeting Capital Assets and Capital Projects in Oracle Hyperion Planning

Quality financial planning requires that capital expense planning be accurate and easily modified as capital assets are added, modified or retired. Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning (CapEx), a module within Oracle Hyperion Planning, allows for the planning of capital assets and capital asset related expenses.

Often, the approach to customizing Hyperion Capital Asset Planning - adding custom dimensions, additional accounts structures, approvals, justifications, and capital cost comparisons, such as ROI, Payback Period, NPV, IRR - has been unclear to the non-developer. These customizations can be accomplished following a simple blueprint, and some basic rules, for modifying Forms, Business Rules, Smart Lists and Menus.

We will follow Tucson Physicians Center (TPC) as they use Hyperion Capital Asset Planning to review and approve new capital project plans. All capital project requests must have their own P&L Statement and ROI; in addition, requested projects are scored by the capital advisory committee, and the financial results of approved projects are merged with the current budget.

ERPi Explained

Ever find yourself analyzing data from your planning or consolidation system and wondering what makes up that number?  Then you login into a separate system and navigate to the correct intersection to be able to investigate all the transactions that you wanted to see.  In business this happens all the time.

Whether it is the finance department (analyzing variances), accounting department (checking to see if something posted correctly), or even a sales/marketing department (seeing if all items for a trade show it their cost center) people are constantly moving between systems.

Have you heard there is an easier way?

Oracle's new ERPi allows users to go from analyzing data in their Hyperion Planning, Hyperion HFM, or Hyperion Reports environments and drill back to get more detail on a particular piece of data in their source system with just a right click of the mouse.  Sounds easy?  Well it is!  Download this whitepaper to learn more.
