LEADERSHIP

Thomas Antunez
Extended Profile

Imagine a multimillion-dollar project in your hands. That’s a lot of pressure.  Such a position would be enough to make the average business executive squirm with nervousness.  There is that top tier of high-powered business leaders, however, that welcome the opportunity. So is the case for Percentix Principal and CEO Thomas Antunez, who helped steer a Fortune 100 semiconductor company into the positive direction it was adamantly seeking.

Over the past seven years, Thomas has led Percentix in successfully managing large, complex, global process and technology implementations for a wide variety of organizations.  Under his direction, Percentix is the preeminent provider of Oracle | Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) solutions and provides somewhat of an “eye-opener” for companies’ in the planning, budgeting, forecasting and statutory / financial management reporting areas.

For the semiconductor giant, he developed all monthly forecasts and semi-annual financial budgets within its EPM planning solutions whereby employee costs were allocated to corresponding cost centers based on multiple business drivers. He also enabled customer based revenue budgets by product category, providing the client with deeper insight into sales.

The bottom line: he significantly improves an organization’s performance while saving it both time and money. While he credits this to surrounding himself and his company with the best people in the industry, it is Thomas’ impressive credentials that help make it possible.

Upon founding Percentix in 2003, Thomas, who is based in Percentix’s Irvine, CA office, has mapped out countless timelines, resources, technical architectures, and risks associated with companies’ business performance management initiatives. He and his team of experts typically spend a great deal of time with clients, monitoring and documenting detailed business processes for placement within an innovative EPM system. His experience has spanned a range of industries including telecommunications, automotive, semiconductor, high technology, public utilities, financial services, retail and insurance, to name a few.

And Thomas has had his finger on some massive projects.

He managed a 16-month, multimillion-dollar EPM redesign, rebuild, and redeployment for a multibillion dollar publicly traded company. The initiative redesigned its budgeting and forecasting processes, supporting a multi-year EPM roadmap for retail, wholesale, and manufacturing businesses.

Additionally, for a $1 billion mining operation, what better way to design and implement a highly effective EPM project than to essentially “live the life of a miner” for six weeks. This hands-on approach allowed Thomas and Percentix to fully understand the company and subsequently paint the proper EPM vision needed to bolster the company’s performance management.

While he has helped establish interactive tools for CEO’s, CFO’s, COO’s and corporate controllers, all designed to communicate several performance indicators that make executive meetings more efficient and informative, his successes in boosting companies’ performance is too long to list – which is why clients see Thomas as a trusted advisor.

In fact, he often meets with clients to discuss topics that are completely outside the scope of Oracle | Hyperion EPM-related services; Thomas is someone clients rely on to help address any situation, trusting that he always steers them in the right direction.

Prior to founding Percentix four years ago, Thomas served as Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis with Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., using his expertise to align organization strategy and technology, engineer financial/business processes, and lead large scale EPM programs.

With degrees in Economics and in Mathematics from the University of California, Riverside, and a MBA from the University of California, Irvine, Thomas serves on the Board of the Beall Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the UC Irvine Merage School of Business and is an Executive Committee Member of the Dean's Leadership Circle, also at the Merage School of Business. He holds professional certifications in Hyperion Planning and Hyperion Essbase and is also a Six Sigma Certified Professional.

Yet, it’s not all work and no play for the business performance guru.

The native Californian, like his wife Emmy, a 2nd grade school teacher, has a passion for worldly cultures and constant learning. He has traveled extensively through Asia, including China, Hong Kong and Vietnam. He’s conversational in French, plays steel string and classical guitar, and don’t forget his taste in wine; he enjoys collecting wines from around the world.

In addition to business books and journals, he is an avid reader of literature; some of his favorite writers include Albert Camus, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Sylvia Plath, Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, Marcel Proust and Oscar Wilde.

His years of professional experience and appreciation for constant learning have come full circle. Thomas shares his wealth of knowledge and resources by lending support to charities and non-profit organizations including the Paul Merage School of Business, American Diabetes Association and Orange County High School of the Arts.
